When reviewing mynordstrom-related benefit records after leaving Nordstrom, identify the full name of each medical account before deciding what happens to its balance. An HSA and a health FSA are different arrangements. A card, available-balance figure, or familiar benefits provider name does not make their rules interchangeable.
This guide applies if your own records show that you participated in one of these arrangements. It does not establish that every Nordstrom employee has either account.
Separate keeping an HSA from contributing to it
An HSA is portable: it stays with the account holder after changing employers or leaving the workforce. Continuing to contribute is a separate question that depends on HSA eligibility. Existing funds may still be used for qualified medical expenses under the applicable rules even when new contributions are not permitted. IRS Publication 969
For the transition, ask the account provider to confirm access, current contact information, and any fees that apply after employment ends.
Then examine your new coverage before making additional contributions. Do not assume that every plan described as “high deductible” establishes HSA eligibility, or that keeping the account proves you may continue funding it.
Identify the FSA’s applicable dates
A health FSA operates under its plan’s terms. HealthCare.gov explains that FSAs generally follow use-it-or-lose-it rules and that an employer may offer a permitted grace period or carryover. Those features are not universal. HealthCare.gov: flexible spending accounts
After departure, ask the administrator for the dates relevant to your participation:
| Question | Why the answer matters |
|---|---|
| Through what date can eligible expenses be incurred? | Determines the relevant service or purchase period |
| By what date must a claim be submitted? | Determines the filing opportunity |
| What documentation is required? | Establishes how to support reimbursement |
| Does any continuation provision apply? | Clarifies whether participation can continue under specified terms |
| Which claims remain unresolved? | Separates available balance from pending activity |
A deadline to submit paperwork should not be read as permission to incur new expenses through that same date.
Use dates to clarify the question
Suppose, hypothetically, that a plan document permits claims for eligible services through June 30 and requires their submission by September 30. A July filing for a June service raises a different question from a July service.
These are invented dates illustrating why both fields matter. They are not Nordstrom’s deadlines, and they do not establish eligibility for reimbursement.
Ask the administrator to give the actual dates and the relevant document section. Save that answer with the statement.
Do not treat every spending account alike
If your records show a dependent care account, limited-purpose health account, or another arrangement, obtain instructions for that specific account. Avoid applying a health FSA explanation merely because the account is administered on the same website.
Likewise, changing insurance and managing an account balance are separate tasks. Use the health coverage guide for replacement insurance decisions.
Reconcile before considering the account closed
Compare the statement with submitted claims, decisions, and any amounts already reimbursed. List disputed or unfinished entries individually.
If a transaction was declined, ask whether the problem concerns the payment method, required documentation, expense eligibility, or participation dates. The decline itself does not supply the explanation.
Keep the provider’s decision and the documents supporting it in your exit records folder. Do not send receipts containing private medical information to this publication.
The practical objective is to leave with a named account, verified access route, applicable dates, and a clear record of anything still pending.
